Abiquiu Home in Barranca

by Jarred Conley on October 29, 2009

I tend to find that on the first phone call with Buyers they don’t have a clue as to where they want to live in the areas north of Santa Fe, NM. They know Abiquiu is famous for Georgia O’Keeffe and that Ojo Caliente is famous for the Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs but they don’t know about each little village or area in or around these famous towns.

Abiquiu for example has the Lake area, Plaza Blanca, the mesas above Medanales, Barranca and Sierra Negra. I recently took a listing in Barranca. Barranca is just past Bode’s General Store on the left. You take the county road that follows the river to a private drive that takes you up to this sweet little classic adobe. The house is Northern New Mexico at it’s best; Adobe, “L” Shaped, vigas and beams, traditionally landscaped. As a native of northern New Mexico I have never grown tired of the views and architectural styles that other people come here for. The simplicity of a gravel path to the front door. Two wooden chairs to watch the sunset. The gray scratch coat of the exterior walls. The wood stoves to sit next to in the winter.

The property and surrounding views make you want to throw your cell phone away and go for a hike. Directly behind the house are waterfalls and vantage points from which you can see all of the river valley down below. Within minutes you can walk to Bode’s for a cup of joe.

I having a showing on this property this Saturday. The Buyer is flying out from California because of the picture of the two chairs.

This scheduled showing tells me that I live in a truly wonderful place. Rarely do I show a property because it is a 3 bedroom house or because it has a chef’s kitchen. I show property here in northern New Mexico because of the lifestyle, the views and the feeling you get when you look out the old wooden window of a 100 year old adobe.

New Abiquiu Land Listings

by Jarred Conley on October 27, 2009

We had snow this morning and it was quite a sight mixed with the remaining yellow leaves on all the cottonwoods.  I spent most of the morning working on websites and new Abiquiu Land listings that I signed over the weekend.  Hopefully tomorrow I will have the two land parcels on the market.  They are each around 15 acres with irrigation, domestic wells, electric and phone.  The views of the Sangre de Cristos are beautiful with the snow this time of year.

I have had a lot of interest in Abiquiu and Ojo Caliente this past month.  Buyers are looking for deals and hoping to find what they are looking for before the market turns the other direction.  I have several Seller’s who have reduced their properties or adjusted the acreage to make the price more appealing.

I am planning to go the Chama Canyon Wilderness for a hike after I get the sign up on Wednesday- one of the many reasons I love my job!!
